I need some advice on cell phones. Not only do "significant others" have access to my voice mail, but since my phone was purchased in such a small town, anyone on their toes will reconize the prefix. And then there was that, One Time . . . . in Spokane, when this little SW stole my phone. Fortunately it was one of those that you had to have visual contact with the tower to work.

So I'm wondering about disposables or any other alternatives.

Any advice is greatly apprreciated.

Hey, new poster here. Just started checking out the Boise scene. Here's my chance to give something back. :)

I just picked up a pay-as-you-go cell phone for $29.99. You can get them at Rite Aid, Shopko, even 7-11 has them. No ID or credit card required. Just buy the phone and activate it online. You keep add more minutes by buying phone cards at the store.

IMHO, this is the way to fly. You do have to buy cards every 90 days or so, even if you don't use the minutes. Depends on the phone. T-Mobile, Virgin and others have them. I did a little research and opted to buy mine from a non-cell store. The cell phone stores want to pump you for info, even if you're a "cash only" account.

Yes, "disposable" phones as they are called are the way to go. I don't worry about it myself, but I've heard that they are the favorite way to go by anyone that's carrying on affairs they don't want others to know about. Makes it a lot easier in many ways and doesn't really have any downsides (other than maybe having to explain to significant other why you have two phones if she sees it).

I have also gone the direction of a cash only phone. At this time I never carry them both and leave the other at work except when needed to arrange a date. So far that is working but it is a valid concern.
